Introducing Cycle Of Life Bio-Packaging Solutions

For years Cycle Of Life Natural Products has been working on biodegradable and compostable packaging solutions. We first started with packaging for our own sugarcane and coffee ground straw products. A little trail and error and voila we had created a durable and sustainable package for our straws. We were extremely excited because now no only is our product eco-friendly but now our packaging is as well. The entire product and package can now be composted or will natural bio-degrade in about 18 months. So now we’ve decided to offer our bio-packaging to any industry with products that needs it. Nobody wants to see petroleum plastic wrappers laying around all over the ground or in the water for next 100 + years.

What is bio-packaging?

Biodegradable packaging comprises materials that can be broken down by microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and algae. Whiles there are several types of bio-packaging materials. The most widely utilized types of biodegradable packaging are PBAT, PLA, cornstarch and sugarcane also known as bagasse. These are what’s called “bio-based polymers” that break down to it’s raw natural materials.

The term “biodegradable” is a material’s ability to decompose and revert to its natural state. Materials used in packing must degrade entirely and transform into natural elements within a short period following disposal, usually a year or less.

Compostable packaging is similar to biodegradable packaging as the materials used safely return to the earth. The stark difference between the two is that compostable materials typical break down faster. This occurs in the right composting conditions, whereas biodegradable materials are made to decompose in landfills but both materials will break down over a short amount in nature.

How does this new bio-packaging help your bottom line?

More than half of Americans consider packaging waste an environmental issue, and nearly one in three consumers agree they are more likely to shop with a brand that offers products in sustainable packaging over brands that do not offer such options. This means you could be attracting more customers because you are using sustainable packaging. Years ago when we first started selling our biodegradable and compostable sugarcane straws a bio-packaging option was not available. They were packaged in a cellophane bag, cellophane is made from petroleum. It didn’t take long for people to start chiming in. “Why put a sustainable product in a non sustainable bag"? is what we were hearing among other things about the petroleum packaging. So we quickly got to work on developing a sustainable package and haven’t looked back. In our minds we had to put out this fire or it was going to seriously hurt our bottom line. You may not being hearing it from your customers, you may not realize that there is this level of concern for our environment. Want more proof? The global sustainable packaging market is currently around $440 billion dollars and growing fast! We can assist with providing bio-packaging solutions that will help your bottom line.
